The Internet Society Philadelphia Area Chapter
This chapter is designed to serve Philadelphia, southeastern Pennsylvania, parts of New Jersey, and Delaware.
The ISOC-PHILA chapter will serve the interests of our community by providing a means of forwarding the goals of the Internet Society in our region, especially in the areas of education and training, standards and protocols and public policy.
While there are many "tech groups" in our community of interest, no existing group enables individuals and organizations to address these issues in the same manner as an ISOC Chapter.
The purpose of the chapter will be to focus on education, communication and community service, with emphasis on local implications.
Our proposed scope of operation includes:

The bylaws of the Metropolitan Career Center preclude it from engaging in any lobbying activities.
Our intent is to establish this chapter as a not-for-profit organization in Pennsylvania.
There are no competing chapters in our area -- the closest chapter is in New York.
Philadelphia is a very tech focused city, as illustrated by the mayor's initiative to make Philadelphia the first "wired" city in the nation by establishing a public wireless network in the downtown area.
Philadelphia is home to dozens of universities, colleges, and tech companies that include many individuals and organizations who will be interested in and will benefit from the influence of the Internet Society's approach to internet issues.
